There is no single right answer to how often a car needs washing. It depends on where you park, what you drive through and the time of year.
Start with where you park
A car parked under cover stays cleaner for longer. A car parked outdoors collects dust, leaves and bird droppings every day, and benefits from more regular washing.
Adjust for the season
Dry months in the Tricity bring fine dust, which builds up quickly. During the monsoon, mud and road grime collect low on the body and underneath the car, so it is worth paying attention to those areas once the rains ease.
Do not wait with these
Some contaminants should come off soon, whatever your usual routine:
- Bird droppings, which can mark paint if left in the sun
- Tree sap
- Mud left to dry on the paint for days
Wash gently
How you wash matters as much as how often. Wiping a dusty car with a dry cloth drags grit across the paint and causes fine scratches. A proper foam wash lifts the dirt first, so there is less risk of marking the paint.
After a muddy spell, an underbody wash clears what you cannot see.
Make it a habit
If you would rather not keep track, monthly wash plans set a regular schedule for you.
